In Service to Our Neighbors
The Office of Campus Ministry is committed in its cultivation of opportunities for students to actively serve in the surrounding greater Springfield area. Whether at local ministries sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph or at nonprofits, students have many opportunities to commit their time and talents in working for the common good in the local community. Below are just some of the local volunteer opportunities available. For more information on local service opportunities, please contact the Campus Ministry staff.
Sisters of St. Joseph
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield welcome volunteers to assist in many aspects of our ministries. Some of the opportunities for volunteering include: visiting and entertaining residents in the Mont Marie Health Care Center, helping with the landscaping and gardening on the Mont Marie campus, or helping with fundraisers. Homework House
Homework House provides free after-school tutoring and mentoring for children in Holyoke, Massachusetts, who are at risk for academic failure and dropping out of school. Tutors are always needed. Volunteer at Homework House.
The Gray House
The Gray House is a small neighborhood human service agency serving the Northend of Springfield, Massachusetts, that encourages neighbors in transition to achieve a more stable, safe, productive, and spiritually satisfying life through education and community service. Volunteer at the Gray House.
Sandwiches for the Homeless – Saint Stanislaus Basilica
Join Saint Stanislaus parishioners and volunteers who gather every Sunday at 10:45am to make and distribute sandwiches for the homeless of Chicopee. Take some time to volunteer in helping parishioners of Saint Stanislaus to continue this ministry to the homeless. For more information please contact Campus Ministry.
Open Pantry
Open Pantry offers various resources and assistance to the local community in Springfield. Periodically, volunteers are needed at their Emergency Food Pantry, the Loaves and Fishes Kitchen, the People’s Center, and the Holiday Meal Program. Volunteer at Open Pantry.
Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry
Lorraine’s is a nonprofit in Chicopee that strives to reduce the risk and effects that food insecurity has on families and individuals by investing in those we serve through collaboration with our community partners to educate and raise awareness. Lorraine’s has served over 50 families a day in the pantry and up to 120 people a night for dinner. Volunteer at Lorraine’s.
Jericho
Jericho is a Holyoke nonprofit organization in the diocese of Springfield that provides religious and social services to people with mental or physical disabilities, along with support services to their families. Volunteer at Jericho.
Providence Ministries
A nonprofit in the city of Holyoke, Providence Ministries takes great pride in its mission to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and clothe the needy. Volunteers are needed in all areas of the ministries.
